Olio E Osso Balm Review
Olio E Osso Balm Review
I had seen them all over skincare/french-esque makeup social media— the shiny, colorful balms from Olio E Osso. However, the idea of a $28 balm made me squirm… I didn’t want to risk not liking them. Eventually, a sale emerged. Or rather, a discount code. Matilda, my favorite beauty content creator and a HUGE inspiration for my blog, came to the rescue. I got two for less than the price of one! I was so pumped.
Olio E Osso Balms are lightweight balms made with a mixture of oils including shea and olive oils. The balms are great for layering— so you can have a sheer wash of color or build up to a translucent colored sheen. However, I can’t speak on the colorless balms, due to the fact that I did not buy any. The balms mositurize and make the lips pretty and glossy, depending on how much you apply.
The first shade I got was No. 8: Persimmon, a beautiful orange-apricot shade, which has been my makeup color mood for the past couple months. I like it best on the lip, but put on the cheek alone or on top of a liquid blush (Glossier Cloud Paint in Dawn is my favorite combo so far) adds a beautiful sheen. (add more here) Find here.
The free shade was pre-chosen— No. 5 Currant, a rich berry brown. Not necessarily a color I would choose for myself, but I LOVE it. This balm is the reverse of the last, because I perfer it on the cheek for a super light wash of a deep shade, or over Glossier’s cloud paint in Storm (Glossier + Olio collab, anyone?). It’s cute on the lip, but to be honest I like it mixed with Persimmon rather on it’s own. Find it here.
These balms are perfect for someone who wants a lightweight but buildable foray into monochromatic makeup looks.
ALSO, please check out Matilda’s Youtube and Instagram (@matildaonvideo for both). She’s awesome— and a huge influence on this— so you’ll love her if you like this blog. She’s a pioneer in the “flat lay” genre of beauty Youtube. You want a classic, no bullshit look on makeup and skincare products? She’s your girl. She’s a refuge in a drama-fueled, status crazed side of Youtube and I cannot be more grateful for her content. God, I love her channel. Looking back, she may have been the reason I decided to buy Glossier— but that was a minute ago so I can’t tell for sure lol.
