Opinion: Natural Face Makeup (Natural Base)

Opinion: Natural Face Makeup (Natural Base)

A natural face or light base is superior, in my mind. No full-coverage concealer or magic foundation can tear me away from the look of fresh, natural skin. While there is a definite niche in the beauty community that loves a natural look, (God Bless Alexa Chung) I feel as though the general mood is MUA type makeup, with perfect, matte, foundation. I like foundation, don’t get me wrong, but something about a face that’s all perfectly one (usually yellow-toned) shade kinda freaks me out. Just me.
I’ve always loved bb/cc creams, but it’s hard to find a good shade in the drugstore and I can’t justify buying a glorified tinted moisturizer for over $10.
Don’t even get me started on concealer. I like to wear just concealer on most days, under the eyes. With the ever-present rise of the Kardashian-Kontour (lol) look, concealers are FULL coverage. No amount of blending could disguise the line between the parchment-colored concealer under my eyes and my bare, pink, cheek. What could I do?
Fortunately, I only had to spend too much money on 1 product.
My mom and sister are currently Mary Kay reps, and they cised me with a CC cream. It’s really a great product. Super light coverage, but can still cover the redness on my nose. The texture is both dewy and velvety, which I’m not sure how it is possible, but Mary Kay Ashe IS that girl, so I’m not surprised.
For the concealer, a bit of a splurge: Yves Saint Laurent’s Touche Eclat. A super-smooth, super lightweight brightening formula that doesn’t cake but covers my amethyst-colored under eyes. I’ve tried their color correctors, but this, this is it. I cursed myself as I handed my card over for a $35 concealer, but it’s worth it ladies (and gents— don't be afraid of a little cover-up! Y’all look tired too!).
