Kiehl's Cleanser Review (among other things):
(Before I begin, shout out to Alma at the Kiehl’s counter in Lord and Taylor at Fair Oaks Mall. She’s great)
My skin was feeling stripped and dry. In SUMMER, of all times. Not to mention I had run out of my Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser, so I was desperate for something that could cover taking off my makeup and spf… I was desperate.
I love the beauty section of department stores. While it doesn’t have the independence of Sephora or Ulta, there’s just something about being surrounded with luxurious products and people vying to give you a sample. Makes one feel fancy, or at least fancier than they would be in a different store, sweaty and crouched down trying not to fall over while testing an Urban Decay eyeshadow swatch (we’ve all been there). I digress.
So here I am, walking around Lord and Taylor covered in swatches up to the elbow— and I’m trying to find a way to get it off before I smear Chanel lipstick over half of the mall. I end up yes-ing my way into a cleanser test. I had heard of Kiehl’s cleanser before, but I thought that a $20 basic cleanser was a load of bs.
BOOM. All of the makeup...gone. Not only was the hand clean, it felt bouncy and moisturized after the cleanse. I decided to take the plunge (with the $10 travel size LMAO) and buy the cleanser.
I really, really like it. At the time of this post, I’m onto my second bottle. The travel size ( 2.5 fl oz) lasted me a couple months, given that you’re using a pea-sized amount. It creates a great lather, and cleans the skin without stripping. (If you feel like your face is gonna crack when you smile after washing your face, get a new cleanser. Pls.) I still like to use Milky Jelly cleanser or a micellar water as a double cleanse, but this does the job beautifully on it’s own. Find it here.
Mini-Review on samples that I tried but can’t really speak on since I only used the product once:
Kiehl’s Turmeric and Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Mask: Big boots to fill with a name like that— but it does the job well. Little bits of what I assumed was the cranberry seeds gently exfoliates the skin, while the mask itself is very creamy and brightens the skin— I know turmeric is commonly used in DIY masks for this purpose. Feels like a mask you would wear while eating Thanksgiving leftovers… or maybe it’s just the cranberry.
Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask: A best seller at Kiehl’s— it has a whole line— I had high expectations. It’s a clay mask. A really good one, I’m not going to lie. But I’m also not going to lie to you and say that you’d be better off buying a $35 clay mask when you could get the ever-iconic Aztec Clay Mask and a bottle of apple cider for ⅓ of the price. Just saying.
Samples that are pictured but weren’t actually used because I save all my samples for a “rainy day” that never comes:
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, Kiehl’s Love Oil for Lips, and Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve.
